Literacy in Video Examination for Private Investigators – 8 Hour Continuing Education Course
About Course
Investigators and analysts who understand the human and technical limitations in reviewing video evidence make better decisions during incident review, investigations, and legal proceedings. Body-worn cameras have transformed public safety accountability and transparency since their widespread adoption following 2014. Yet the proliferation of BWC footage has created a new and significant risk: the assumption that video is a complete, objective, and unmediated record of what occurred during a critical incident.
Research consistently demonstrates that this assumption is false.
This course builds video literacy — the disciplined ability to critically interpret recorded footage with scientific accuracy. Participants will leave equipped to conduct structured video reviews, explain perceptual limitations in legal proceedings, avoid common cognitive biases in evidence analysis, and produce written incident review reports that integrate video evidence with research-grounded perceptual analysis.
