About Course

FACTS Under Pressure: Ethical Decision-Making for Security Officers

Security officers make decisions that affect access, safety, privacy, property, dignity, employment, and public trust. This two-hour course combines practical ethical reasoning with the FACTS decision process. Learners distinguish duty-based reasoning from outcome-based reasoning, separate facts from assumptions, use fair process, generate authorized options, document defensible decisions, and recognize how peers, supervisors, and organizational culture can normalize unethical shortcuts.

Learners will distinguish ethical issues, dilemmas, and temptations; compare deontological and teleological reasoning; apply FACTS to realistic security decisions; use voice, neutrality, respect, and trustworthy motives; recognize moral disengagement and ethical fading; and explain and document a defensible course of action.
